The Soap Film Curtain lets visitors raise a single, enormous sheet of soap film — a shimmering, near-invisible wall that climbs as they pull the bar, alive with slowly swirling bands of colour. For a few breathless moments the film holds, rippling with every draft of air, before it finally bursts and vanishes — and visitors immediately pull again for one more try.
Visitor experience
The interaction is simple and deeply satisfying: pull steadily and the film rises; rush it and it pops early. Visitors experiment with speed and patience to raise the tallest possible curtain, then lean close to watch the colours drift and swirl across the surface like weather on another planet. It is as much a living artwork as a physics demonstration.
The science on show
A soap film is one of the thinnest structures the eye can see — a sandwich of soap molecules just microns thick. The swirling colours are light itself interfering across that thickness, and the film's graceful collapse shows surface tension giving way in real time. Big, beautiful and fleeting, it makes invisible physics impossible to miss.
