The Soap Bubble Maker gives visitors everything they need to become bubble artists: a wide basin of professional soap solution and a collection of oversized wands in unexpected shapes — hoops, cubes, pyramids and more. Dip, lift, and pull, and enormous iridescent bubbles bloom into the air, wobbling and drifting to the delight of everyone nearby.

It is a perfect social station: easy enough for toddlers, endlessly experimental for older children, and irresistible to adults who "just want one try".

Visitor experience

Every wand invites a new experiment. Will a cube-shaped wand make a cube-shaped bubble? (The answer surprises almost everyone.) How big can a bubble grow before it bursts? Can you catch one, or blow a bubble inside a bubble? The generous basin lets several visitors work side by side, comparing techniques and cheering each other's giants.

The science on show

Bubbles are surface tension in its most beautiful form. The exhibit demonstrates how soap films always pull themselves into the smallest possible surface — which is why every wand, whatever its shape, produces a sphere — and how interference across a film just microns thick paints those swirling rainbow colours.
