Bubble Monster
Step inside a ring of soap solution, pull the cord, and rise a shimmering giant bubble around yourself — becoming the star of a soapy spectacle.
Bubble Monster puts the visitor at the very center of the show. Standing inside a circular basin of soap solution, they pull a cord and a hoop rises around them — drawing up a vast, shimmering wall of soap film that wraps them in a bubble taller than they are. For a few magical seconds the visitor wears a garment of soapsuds, to the delight of everyone watching.
Few exhibits stop a gallery in its tracks like a person standing inside a giant bubble. It is equal parts photo moment and physics lesson, and visitors line up to take their turn again and again.
Visitor experience
The interaction is beautifully simple: step in, grip the cord, pull steadily and watch the soap film climb. Children marvel at the swirling colours racing across the film's surface; adults are just as delighted when the bubble finally pops in a sparkling burst. Because the visitor drives the hoop themselves, every attempt is a fresh experiment — pull too fast and the film breaks early, pull smoothly and the bubble towers.
The science on show
Bubble Monster is surface tension made monumental. The stretching soap film shows how molecules pull together into the thinnest stable sheet in nature, while the shifting rainbow patterns reveal light interfering across a film just microns thick. It is also a playful lesson in perception — the visitor appears dressed in soap, prompting conversations about how easily our eyes are fooled.
