Probability Water Wall
A vertical playground where balls cascade through pin grids, zigzag channels and spinners — making probability and patterns visible through play.
The Probability Water Wall turns a whole wall into a cascade of cause and effect. Visitors send balls to the top and watch them tumble down through a field of pins, zigzag channels, spinning stars and tipping buckets — bouncing left or right at every pin, spinning every wheel they strike, and landing below in patterns that reveal themselves over dozens of runs.
It is a Galton board grown to room scale and made fully playable: loud, colourful, physical, and quietly mathematical.
Visitor experience
Children race to feed balls into the top and follow their journey down, cheering at every ricochet. No two runs are identical — and that is the point. Over many balls, visitors start to notice that the middle fills up faster than the edges, that some paths are rare and some common, and that the wall is teaching them probability without a single word of instruction.
The science on show
Every pin is a coin flip; every run is a random walk. The wall makes abstract ideas — randomness, distribution, statistical patterns emerging from chaos — physically visible and repeatable, alongside energy, momentum and rotation at every spinner and channel.
